Dear friends,
it is the site Giveaway of the Day and the often negative reaction is not always about the content of a program offered. Sometimes it's very rude to it several times and ask the visitors of the site or not these people be removed from the site by the site manager but nothing changes and the language is sometimes along the offensive off. Again, how can these people be removed from the site because it is not fun anymore and the site itself is quite good.
yours sincerely

I agree with you about the rudeness and bad language that some community members use and to try and combat this have volunteered together with several other community members to moderate the giveaway comments section, but unfortunately the site owners have declined our offer of help.

I wish I knew what that last paragraph says, WhiteRabbit, but it's all Greek to me.

Creamy...well, it's the Google translation of the first paragraph into Dutch...pretty good btw.
:)
The Dutch moderator does a very good job... but if things escalate again, maybe he should consider a moderation queue.Of course that would make the Dutch comment's section less attractive...In the absence of the moderator ,there's always an option to PM BuBBy in life threatening situations...
There have been similar issues in the German and French section in the past.

Life threatening situations? If it's my life that is threatened... don't call me, I'm not at home! :)

I'm of the thinking that ppl can read something and decide whether it's valid or not. They can decide whether the poster is just an idiot, or if the poster knows what they're talking about. Readers can make the distinction and can decide to ignore or absorb the information.
In my opinion, more moderators aren't needed here (in the comment section or here in the forums). If anything, I'd put word filters in place anywhere someone could post something, but that would be it. Too many people here want to see this site a certain way, or in a specific format, or without the comments they don't like. This takes away from the entire community here and that would include those that post in the comment section, not just here in the forums.
More moderators means more of a slant toward a particular moderators point of view or several moderators with several points of view (at least that's how I've seen it over the years), and I'm of the opinion that's not always such a good thing. With a word filter in place, you could almost say a moderator isn't needed unless there's someone's spam post to delete or to lock down a thread that's gotten WAY WAY outta control with regards to flaming.

Well I am a visitor of the Dutch comment sections every day (Dutch men in France)
And I do agree that it is out of control on some days even though our moderator is doing his best.
And I also agree that human sense would determine how or when to react on other peoples comments.
But unfortunately there are people who just are commenting to light a fire, using nonsense, rudeness and most irritating using other people’s nicknames to stay themselves anonym. I am sure that the moderators and owners are doing all to avoid problems. Maybe there is a possibility to show for example the last three digits of their IP address behind or in front of their nickname to avoid these fakers.Posted 14 years ago # -
Another avenue that has been discussed before here was having ppl register before they make a comment. That'd solve the anon issue, or at the very least provide an avenue to remove the idiots from posting. I'm sure there's a linked IP address on the admin side for every comment, and if there isn't, there should be. Banning certain IP's will only encourage ppl to use proxies, but it may get rid of some of the problem, but not all.

Banning IPs could prevent respectable posts. IPs are not always static. They do change and the respectable user is rarely aware of the fact. The real jerks could be using an IP that is extremely common and it would be unfair to ban it. I am an admin on several boards and banning IPs is always the last response and only taken when all else fails.

Looks like banning IP is one of the first things the GOTD mods do. For some reason my IP is banned from the main site, probably because I comment on badly implemented DRM too often (about once a week). When I actually have something to say, they just directly chuck it. Whatever, barely my loss (I learned and don't comment there anymore).

Apart from the moderator's comments ,I only counted about 11 posts that were more or less on topic...(out of 69 ,and of which some of the others are containing bad language or suggestive remarks)
There's nothing wrong with a little off topic chitchat...at times it can be quite fun... but right now I feel embarrassed looking at the way the Dutch comment section is deteriorating. Then again I am not the one to judge...and I have a deep appreciation for the moderator.
So suggesting a moderation queue is none of my business.Posted 14 years ago #
