I'm stuck on level 48. I see that others are on higher levels. Is there a secret to get past this level. It always times out before I can finish. Help please.

I'm at level 97. I don't remember that level. I do know that there is a strategy to the game. Just try emptying them at different sections. Persistence is the key though. Good luck.
Try here.

Thanks for the link, Tiffany. I got stuck on level 60. I didn't have too much of a problem before then. What I noticed Zen is that I had to use the bonuses. So far, I've got the one that does random hits around the board, the bomb, and the one that destroys vertical rows. I found I couldn't keep up if I tried to just use what was on the board and not use the bonuses I had.

As a word of encouragement, the game can be completed, so do persevere. I completed this game over the weekend, but it has taken me weeks to get there. Different leveles have their own problems, and some later levels seem to me to be easier than those which have gone before. I would make a couple of general observations which some people may find helpful.
Firstly, make sure, if time permits, that you collect all the tokens on any particular level. These are essential for getting the bonuses. I also got stuck at level 60, but I started again because I didn't have enough bonuses to complete the level, and even swapping bonuses around I could not get a combination that worked. I hadn't collected enough tokens to get the bonuses I needed.
Secondly, try not to think too hard about what you are doing. There comes a point where thinking costs dearly as the time slips away. Do your thinking and clicking on groups of symbols whilst the bonuses are recharging. I found that at later levels I was having to use bonuses as soon as they were available, even before they had reached their maximum recharge level, just to get rid of some very annoying items.
I was not impressed by the storyline, such as it was - it added nothing to the game as far as I am concerned. However, I was very taken with the game itself and got so addicted I still see it when I close my eyes!Posted 15 years ago # -
Thanks, Emperor! I didn't pay that much of attention to bonuses until I got around the level Zen got stuck. I strongly suspected that I might have the wrong bonus set at level 60 and might have to start over. I also experienced trying to decide how far to let the bonuses charge up and also got the same impression about trying to think/plan too much.
Again, really astute and useful observations!

Played this game at the weekend also and now I remember the bonuses. I do remember that when I got stuck I went for broke and every time the bonuses were ready, I used them. Try that Zen.

How do you use the bonus before they are charged. I have the bomb for one square, the one that eliminates or rearranges squares on the entire board and the one that breaks a vertical line. Don't have enough tokens for anything else.
Should I go back and start over. Stuck on this level for at least a week.

What Tiffany meant, Zen, is before they are FULLY charged. Part of the problem with Deep Voyage, is that the bonuses are barely explained at all. When the bonus screen pops up, you have the choice of buying a new bonus or upgrading an old one. So, for example, I have (I forget the actual names) the bomb, the vertical row destroyer, and the scatterbomb/random destroyer button. The bomb destroys one square at the first level, and more as you buy upgrades. Same with the vertical row destroyer and scatterbomb button. But they charge up through one level at a time. So, when your power ups are charging, you get a first level bomb first. But, if you wait longer, you get a bigger bomb. The problem is: that takes more time. You can actually watch them change color (and they make that charge up tinkling sound every time they get stronger, too). The bomb goes yellow at the first level, white at the 2nd, and yellow again at the third. What Tiffany is saying is that sometimes it's not worth waiting for the bigger bomb, etc, but that you need to use stuff as fast as possible. With the bomb, I'd at least wait until the 2nd or 3rd level - blowing up one thing is usually a waste of time, but the scatterbomb button might be better if you press it right away. It's a tradeoff between time and power and really depends on a lot of other stuff - what level, how you play, etc., so it's hard to give you one simple answer.
As for starting over, what we mean is that you might not have the right set of bonuses and upgrades to those bonuses to get past the level you're stuck on. Regardless, you might also just learn some tricks that will help you get past level 49 with your original player, even with the bonuses you now have.

Watcher13, you have given a very good explanation of what to do (and what not to do). I can see how my post might have been misinterpreted to say start again rather, than juggle the bonuses if having trouble, so thank you very much for clarifying things.
I actually did start again, under a different name, because I couldn't juggle the bonuses to finish the level. However, as a result of this thread, I have gone back to where I left off and have managed to get past that level now. Aaaarrrggh!!
