   Amazon's App Store could be sideloaded on Android devices, and to make it easier they included that capability in their app until Google blocked it. Their App Store will continue to be available for Amazon devices.

   They're also doing away with the coins used to pay for apps in their store. February 20, 2025 is the last day to purchase coins, and after August 20, 2025 they will no longer work. If you have any coins after that the amount will be refunded.

   I got that email. That's causing massive confusion on the Amazon Digital forum. They leave so unclear as to if your current apps will still work.

   What is unclear is iOS devices. It appears that the "quarrel" between Amazon and Google is escalating!

   Neowin's article has a link to a post from Amazon Developer on x/twitter that says developers can post updates to existing apps on the Amazon App Store until 8/20/25.

   Amazon's FAQ says: "Starting August 20, 2025, any apps downloaded from the Amazon Appstore will not be guaranteed to operate on Android devices."

   My *guess* is that the apps will still work unless or until a future update to Android breaks them, and since the app's developers will no longer be able to post any fixes, they'll stay broken. That said, most Android devices don't get updates to the Android OS, so maybe relatively few will be effected.

   I have some games from Amazon that complain if played on Android if the Amazon Appstore is not available and active. Since the purpose of Android devices for me is the few apps that I need/want that aren't available at Amazon, this will just limit a bit more how much I use Android apps.

   I REFUSE to take a chance on running the Google PlayStore on my fires. I've heard too many nightmare stories of things not quite meshing right.

   Not trying to hack the Play Store to work on your Fires is a Very smart move IMHO. The latest figures I've seen, for 2023, say Google makes $45 Billion + off the Play Store per year, so they keep a very tight hold on it. It's not included in the open source version of Android that Amazon & Microsoft used, and they require any company that wants to use Google's Android to sign all sorts of legal docs, pledging to use all sorts of required Google stuff, not just search. Any attempt to get the Play Store working on anything else, like your Fires, requires hacks to get around the DRM Google's built in, and if it works, may break as soon as Google releases updates to stop whatever hack from working.
