I am using PowerPoint 2003 on XP Home SP2.
I installed this program to "h:\program files" rather than "c:\program files" and encountered two problems.
1) When opening the program from the start menu it told me that PowerPoint isn't installed, and
2) When opening the program from the toolbar in PowerPoint it told me that VConvSvr.exe and iSpringSvr.exe were missing or not properly installed.
After several activations and re-installations I checked to see whether these files were on my system and found them in sub-directories of "c:\program files\common files\CPS Labs Ltd". I copied the "CPS Labs Ltd" directory into "h:\program files" and tried again.
I still got the message that PowerPoint is not installed, but the program did open from within PowerPoint.
I tried then to use a "common files" directory within "h:\program files" and everything failed again. Getting rid of the "common files" directory did not help.
I saw light at the end of the tunnel, and then found it was a train coming the other way. Any suggestions on how to proceed so that I can get the program running correctly?
I had no trouble installing FlashSpring Pro 2 from a previous giveaway, and that still works.

I haven't got powerpoint installed at the moment so from that aspect I cannot help - but as a friendly warning (in hindsight) to you and anyone else who is considering your style of restructuring your hard disk. Don't.
You can't just grab folders and programs and move them, or delete folders like "common files" and expect Windows to just "work it out". You are seriously digging a deeper hole for yourself, and that train coming the other way could possibly result in Windows failing to startup - if you move or delete the wrong file.
Windows (tries to) keep track of where files have been installed and what should be in certain locations. Yanking the rug out from under XP's feet is going to leave you in a world of computer pain.

For the first time in using GOTD I couldn't activate this program. When I tried I got "Activation module fialed to connect to GOTD. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings."
Well I did try later and check my settings and still no go.
Now the offer has expired and I am disappointed as I really wanted this program.
Can you help?Posted 17 years ago # -
Unfortunately, once the offer is over - it's over. I always suggest that people try to download and activate with at least 12 hours remaining so you at least get a chance to fix the problem before time runs out. (Some of us might take a few hours to get back to the forums to help - what with real life getting in the way).
Just out of curiosity - did todays giveaway activate/setup OK ?

Bubby, thank you for the friendly warning/advice.
After real life having got in the way for another day, to continue.
I copied the files rather than moved them, in case the main program looked for these additional programs on the same drive as that on which the main program was installed, which in this case is an external drive due to the large amount of space already used by the giveaways. I certainly wouldn't move them, so that the installation details in the registry would not be changed. I was going to say that even I wouldn't be that stupid, but ....
Anyway, I have been doing some more playing. After running the two "missing" programs in question directly using their exe files, and then running iSpring from within PowerPoint, it opens up quite straightforwardly. I probably need to set up a script to run the two programs before I want to run iSpring.
With PowerPoint open, I don't get an error when I try to open iSpring using the desktop icon, but I do still get the PowerPoint is not installed message when PowerPoint is not open.
I do not plan on investigating this any further.
I suspect that there is something on my system that is blocking the running of these programs that I need to bypass.Posted 17 years ago #
