Lyn, you may not need registration numbers. The README file says to unzip, run the activate.exe FIRST, then run setup.exe. Often, that's all that's needed. I'd be able to speak with more confidence had not the $%&!@# application caused my cursor to disappear as soon as I try to slide down to the task bar. I hate when that happens.
Update: Uninstall didn't repair cursor functions, but reboot did. Of course, now I can't say whether the program was properly registered, but who cares? I've gotten used to squinting. ;-(Posted 17 years ago # -
RunesageMagik speaks the truth - the instructions are on the download page (below the download link) - The zip file has 3 files in it - readme.txt, activate.exe, setup.exe - once you download the zip file - extract all 3 - then open readme.txt for further instructions.
This message will self destruct...

BuBBy or someone, I really want this one (magnifying glass), but when I try to run Setup it tells me that the GAOTD is expired. Help!
Posted 17 years ago # -
It's always better to run activate.exe first then setup. I have noticed that some programs were getting unregistered if I did not do this. No more of that now that I run Activate.exe first.

I did run activate first. Being female I actually read the directions most of the time. ;)

Not fair! You ladies won't let us guy-type beings forget that we don't read or ask for directions, but if we point out which demographic tends to drive through red lights the most, you get all moody. :-)
A remote possibility - your computer clock could be off. I've heard where a clock that's off by too much can cause problems with various security progs and with logging into certain sites. WinXP offers internal synchronization when you're on-line, just by clicking on the toolbar clock and going to the Internet Time tab and clicking UPDATE.

Darn, no, it's right on time. Maybe if I turn it back....
Posted 17 years ago # -
Nope, I tried setting the clock to every day this month from the 1st and through this next weekend. This is driving me crazy. I really could use this as I do a lot of research on social networking sites, and those little photos drive me nuts. I can easily enlarge the words most of the time, but I could really use this for the photos.

Umm, by "off" I only meant by a couple minutes. :O)
Runaways and missing persons (parental custody disputes/kidnaps)?Was there something about this appl in particular, or have you tried any of the other freeware magnifying appls on the Net? -

VG, I just downloaded it and installed it with no problems on both my husband's and my PC. Have you tried downloading it again and activating the new one? Maybe you got one of those "other downloads" that Mr B saves for the ..Oops..****In the voice of "Emily Litella"***** "Nevermind!"
Anyway VG, I hope you get it set up. This 50 and over person can really put this to a good use. :)
Posted 17 years ago # -
Yeah, I downloaded it again, no difference. How frustrating. I wish someone from GAOTD would respond. I had a different problem once on a program I really wanted, and missed it because no one from the company responded. I know it's free, but this much hassle is not worth it. :-(

Hey, thanks RunesageMagi. I will definitely check those links out. Much appreciated.
Posted 17 years ago # -
Yes, I know. It can be frustrating. I have had several do it to me also. And it is usually the one I wait until the very last minute to download and setup as I am not sure if I really want it....then it goofs up on me and I don't have the time to figure out what it is. You are running as Admin if you got Vista..Correct?
Well, I think Mr. B is in the land of Aussieville so he is probably cutting some ZZZ's. Not sure about Lee. I tried to just glance over the comment page and didn't see anything that might help you.
Wish I knew the magic words.....

The comment about running as Admin, is on the correct track.
It helps also to make sure the program isn't already running - check in your system tray for the icon that looks like a magnifying glass with a "black" lens - right click and select "Exit"
If you are using Windows Vista, right click on the activate.exe program and select "Run As Administrator" - that should work.

Another thing you could do VG is..try the mirror link to download. Sometimes that will work.
***Crosses fingers**** for luck!

This link will show what this program tells me, it is a trial version, I can use it for 30 days. Click on it.

D, thanks for the support, and for trying to help. I did try the mirror site. :-(
BuBBy, good morning! No, it's not running. I'm still in XP, thank God, and am logged in with full privileges. It's a one "man" box.

lyn, at the bottom of your picture, it says "Registered to user: Giveaway of the Day". So, it's already registered. No need to do anything else. You're good to go. :)

WAHOO! I went straight to the magnifying glasses' site http://www.workerscollection.com/wcollect/english/html/mg_pro_download.html and downloaded it (I got a lot more files than from the GAOTD site download). I hit "Setup" and when it finished I discovered that the "activation" from my earlier GAOTD download had already registered the program as GAOTD. THANKS!!!! ALL!!!!! especially D, BuBBy and lyn who gave me the idea. :D
(what's a PI without a magnifying glass, after all?);-)

***Does happy dance*** for Vg and lyn. Both of you are good to go. :)

Bubby, For the first time in about 2 months, both the Giveawayoftheday and the game giveaway installed on all five of my computers without significant incident. My congratulations to the programmers and vendors of Magnifying Glass Pro and MachineHell and of course, the GAOTD team.
Lately, I have been lucky to get the offerings to install on more than one machine (different machines have problems on different days/offerings.) All have non-built-in video cards except the laptop, 4 are XP Pro, one is XP Media Center Edition and the last is Vista Home Premium on a laptop.
It has been very frustrating, so I am very encouraged by yesterday's successes. Today's game also installed correctly.Posted 17 years ago # -
Congratulations. Lets try for 2 days in a row! :)

An anecdote about following directions that the ladies around here should appreciate:
Why men and women don't golf together
Setting:
MiniGolf Campaign #4
Second Hole - Par 6From the tee, facing unusually steep uphill slope. Golfer whiffs first 19 putts. Ball lands everywhere but on top of the slope.
"This ball will not clear the top of that hill," grumbles golfer.
Ladyfriend sitting within earshot calmly asks silly female-type question, "did you read the instructions?"
Golfer bites tongue. "I looked at them."
Another 8 putts whiffed. Cursing under breath ensues.
Ladyfriend with echo-location ears disapproves of even low amplitude epithets, sighs pointedly, then innocently whispers, "Maybe you should re-read the instructions, hon?" and pats golfer's head while waltzing past enroute to kitchen.
Brooding golfer mutters, "I've gotten this far without the !@(#&* instructions!"
Whiffs another 16 putts in rapid succession, then announces to nobody in particular, "This game REALLY sux!"
Syrupy female voice drifts in from kitchen, "Maybe there's a FAQ page with some hints?"
WHIFF
"I'm looking at the instructions."
WHIFF
"There's just one sentence. Says to use mouse for direction and power of stroke."
WHIFF"That sounds simple enough."
WHIFF "You'd think." WHIFF WHIFF
Female leans against doorframe, sips tea with same amused facial expression as when golfer runs around looking for his hat, the hat sitting on his head the whole time. She posits, "Maybe there's a cheats page?"
"Harrumph... I don't read hints, I will NOT cheat!"
Whiff
"It's simple physics."
Whiff WHIFF
" This can't be right!"
Whiff whiff whifff
"There is absolutely NO way to get the ball up that hill!"
whiff... whiff whiff... whiffFemale shrugs and wanders towards bedroom, "maybe you've overlooked a button somewhere?"
"I've tried ALL the buttons." whiffwhiffwhiffwhifffwhiffffff
Female is well down the hallway but offers a final nonchalant musing, "Hard to believe those were the only instructions."
WHIFF WHIFF
Confucius says- Female intuition is akin to water torture. It'll keep dripping, dripping and dripping like wet stalactites seeping onto a bald headed spelunker.
WHIFF
Golfer, now thoroughly discouraged, begins to wonder - will breaking an electronic golf club damage the monitor?Rheumy eyes skim same sentence for 30th time. Pregnant pause. "Hmmm, didn't notice that bit - Use mouse wheel to choose angle. Say what?? Doesn't the stupid mouse change the angle when you move it? WHOA! Look at that! THREE-dimensional angles! Who'd a thunk? Ohmigawd, now when did that button lead to a big Help screen? Never saw that before. - VERTICAL angle control. Well, that makes sense. We've got a whole new ball game!
Note to self: Cannot tell female. Will take this discovery to grave.
Par 66? Do over!
