I have Windows Vista. Most of the time this poses no problem but after downloading, installing and activating Arabica 1.0, I tried to play the game but it locks up on the opening page. I really want to play this game. Any helpful suggestions?

Same problem on my machine, freezes at beginning of launch. Sometimes, while it's hanging like this, Arabica doesn't even show up in the Task Manager, so the only way I can get that startup screen to go away is to restart my system. I too hope for suggestions. Thanks.

I didn't have a problem installing in Vista. Try running the installation as administrator.

The game requires a 3D Video Card - if you didn't have one, the program just freezing when you start would be a likely symptom.

Please read this - and run the suggested program (if you don't know what video card/chip your computer has).
This will help us work out what might be the problem.

The game hangs for me right at the point where the notice comes up that GAOTD is checking the game's availability. I've tried it several times, and it continues to do that. I have to reset the computer each time, as it doesn't show in the Task Manager. It also took a very long time to extract the files. I downloaded the Starburn program to check if maybe something was wrong with my internet connection, but that works fine. I also tried running Arabica in the compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, as the administrator. That usually does the trick for me, but this time, it didn't help at all. Oh, and I do have a 3D Video card. It's locking up even before I get that far, though.

Here's my system:
Vista Home Premium
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 / GPU C51 Revision A2 Technology 90nm / Memory Size 128 MB (my comp as a whole has 2 gig RAM)
DirectX Support: 9.0c / SM3.0
Driver Version: nvlddmkm 7.15.11.6222 (ForceWare 162.22)/VistaI've downloaded, installed, and played several games with 3D graphics from GGOTD, this is the first time I've had this freezing problem.
Oh, I both ran installation and ran the game "as administrator" ... that didn't help.
Thank you.

@sd94 - your video card should be fine for this game - so it's not that.
I'll install the game and have a closer look at it see if I can work anything else out.
But first a few hours sleep - it's very late here. Hopefully some of the other users might be able to suggest some things to try in the meantime.

Same problem here, it seems. My setup is similar to sd94 above, Vista Home Premium, but my NVIDIA GeForce card is 8500GT with 512 MB. Driver is 7.15.11.6375 dated 10/7/2007. I've also never had problems with any games D/L from this site. I've tried running Arabica in XP SP2 mode, and run as administrator, but neither with any success. Let me know if I can offer any further info, would be glad to do so.
Thanks!

I don't have Vista but XP with SP2, but i also get the freeze at the starting screen, after the small video with the bug.
You can exclude my graphics card as its a 8800GTX.Fortunately this is only the second game GAOTD has given out that freezes my pc and makes me reboot.
Now, there is definitely some incompatibility with some software i have on my pc with this game.Posted 17 years ago # -
I have Vista home -G Force 8500 - 1 gig Ram I have had no problem downloading (2 mins) or playing, it went Smoothly.

I also have XP, but am encountering the same problem. Starting screen appears, then the program thinks for a minute and crashes.
And I have not had problems with any other games from this site.
So it is probably not a Vista issue.

Same problem here, running XP (and just to be different, it's SP1 - had SP2, took it off, and now it won't let me reinstall it again). The games dumps me back out to windows right after that opening screen as well.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's my graphics card, it's the same one that came pre-installed in my PC years ago. ATI Radeon 9200. It would be a shame if I couldn't run this game because of it, though, since it's a match-3 game that people are actually LIKING. ;-)
If I can't, well, I guess I'll do without this time. :)

I,too am having the same problem with Arabica. I used the Mirror site as I couldn't get to the main one. (Whiterabbit mentioned that it came with a set-up and activation button but I only got a set-up button). The download works fine and the installation works but when it starts, I get the bug running across the screen to the "Quick Start" etc. page and then an error (that can't be debugged) so you have to close the game down. This is the first time I've had trouble installing any GAOTD game.

I am having a similar problem on XP media Center. The Game installs, but when you go to play it, it shows the bug running across the screen and the slanted view of the menu, but then disappears. Does not show up in taskbar or task manager. The system seems OK otherwise.

I'm running XP SP2, and when I try to launch Arabica after installation, it just hangs up at the first splashscreen. I'm not sure what kind of Video card came with this pc and am unsure how to find out my version of DirectX, so I ran the GPU-Z software and got these results:

Same issue here, got the bug running across the screen and then the window disappears.
Windows XP / Radeon Mobility X700, as many other commenters I never had any issues before.I hope I'll get to play this game. I like "three-in-a-row" games and I already missed Rise of Atlantis last week :/.
Thanks :)

I am running Windows XP SP2 with all updates and updated drivers and no problems with the game at all.

Any updates with this one yet??

One thing I have noticed several posters seem to be running very dated video drivers. Try again after installing the latest version of your drivers.
