Speak with admin & explain. If s/he ignores you then go see the College Boss.
Can't offer you anything myself as it might get you into trouble with your institute.

for IE7, goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections tab -> click LAN settings and check the "Use proxy server for your LAN". Then you enter the proxy, for example, in my school I would use "proxy.tp.edu.sg" with port 80. Better check what proxy address your school uses...

Thanx a lot Lee, but i do not think it will be of much use.Our institute houses upto 5k students, so it wudn't be possible.
Can you think of any other "less" dangerous way??
Or on second thoughts which are the ways you know, though trouble-causing?Posted 17 years ago # -
@alexiussg We have already tried it,but it's not working...we have also tried ntlmaps to bypass authorozation, but to no avail...

the admin restrict GOTD's address?

We don't know...Also I don't think GOATD's activation module uses LAN settings from IE.
If it were so,we would have had no problemPosted 17 years ago # -
well, i must enter in proxy address from school to activate GOTD software and also for my home too.

Well I am not sure this will work for you but my dad dials-in to get around the proxy server where he works. Since the proxy is only for the LAN dialing-in gets around this. So what I would do is download the Giveaway on your LAN (faster download) and then disconnect from the LAN and dial in and then activate the Giveaway. Not a great solution but it might work until a better solution is reached like being able to go through the proxy again.

Get someone thats not on there lan to download then upload the software to a file hosting site then you can download directly what you want or don't want.
I don't understand why they would block this site unless they believe some software may have malware in it. Has there been a problem? Discuss it with whomever manages there network. It may be a simple misunderstanding.

I must say I am suprised NTLMAPS doesn't work.
That would've been my suggestion. Have you tested any other apps with NTLMAPS? (Just wondering if the problem is with NTLMAPS and it's setup, or specifically the GOTD Activation/Setup modules).
I'd hate to announce or suggest anything the GOTD programmer(s) aren't in a position to implement - but the obvious solution would be to provide a support for proxy settings in the Activate & Setup.exe.
An alternative solution might be "proxifier"
http://www.proxifier.com/BTW - Putting my "LAN Admin" hat on, it is very unlikely your admins have any specific problems with people accessing GOTD. It is much more likely a side consequence of installing the proxy. It would've been easier to "ban" a single site or range of addresses if they didn't want you accessing a certain site. Much more likely the introduction of a proxy server is for monitoring usage levels between departments or users. It's normally the first step after being told of the need to "reduce costs", or ensure "service levels" to "important" users or departments.

@Jaddis We do not have that option here.We have only a LAN connection down here.
@Archangel The problem is with the activation and not the download...We ARE able to download all kinds of files.
@BuBBy No,firefox,IE,GTalk and almost all anti-viruses,anti-spyware are configured to use NTLMAPS.But since the GOTD program simply doesn't support changing proxy settings , we are stuck.Yeah,I agree with your "LAN admit" observations.Let's try talking to the admins though.
It's great to see you guys giving such great support. We will continue visiting GOATD even if we do not get to activate.(Trial versions are for trying right ;))
