Thanks, Khai, downloaded this program - and it looks like a lot of fun.

I checked it out last night. It doesn't look like the type of game I would normally play, but it does look interesting, and I am considering getting it, while the (free) getting is good. Thanks, Khai, for letting us know about this game freebie, as well as the expiration date. :)

This is a really great game, well worth the cost at full price (or as part of the Orange Box, worth every bit of £16.99). If you're not sure if you'd like it, someone's created a 2D flash version that's true to the 3D version.

And if you like that, they've turned the 2D version into a map pack for the 3D version, which is also a blast to play!

Give em a try - it's free, after all!
Oh and if you see the companion cube... say hi for me?

Fantastic game! I highly recommend anyone with a steam account to at least press the button to have the game activated on your account. Once you have the license you can download the game anytime!

I got this with my 'Orange Box' collection (Think that was where...). IT is a VERY fun game that works the mind as well. Anyone that misses this is doing themselves a horrible injustice!

Just bumping this back up as it's a great deal.. hope no one minds :) Only a few days left! They changed the ending recently to allow for a sequel... Not much, just an extra scene.

Chip, the only button I see to press is the Install Game button.
BTW, I meant to add thanks to BentlyTCow for the game reminder. :)

@RosnSC Yes, after pressing the big red "Get Portal Now" button you are taken to the product page where you then choose "Install Game". Upon doing that a window should pop up saying it's activated on your account and it will begin downloading. You can pause the download and resume it anytime as the license will already be activated on your account to my knowledge but if I'm wrong someone correct me lol.

Hiya, Chip. I just clicked onto the link in this thread, and got the big red Get Portal Now button that you mentioned. Clicked onto that, signed into my account, per request, and got Success! Portal is now registered to your account on Steam. I presume that means I can download/install it when I wish to; is that what you meant?

I believe that is what Chip is saying =) Congratulations and welcome to the world of Portal! If it ends up that you enjoy it, you may want to check out Narbacular Drop. Narbacular Drop was the original Portal by the same team that made Portal, made when they were in college. Valve got their hands on it and thought it was a good idea and hired them to redesign it and thus we have Portal.

Thanks, wizzard. I just may check out Narbacular Drop, sometime. I checked Portal out, videos and all, though not a trial download. I'm thinking, "well, it doesn't look like my usual taste, genre-wise, but who knows, it might just be a fun game, after all", so I've decided that since it's free, that's the best way/reason to go for it...(grin).

It's actually rather addictive. A great puzzle game that is just as great to look at as to play.

This seems to still be active, but I'm not sure for how long. Grab it before it's too late!

Yeah, this is the last day. Well worth the effort, especially if you like puzzle games. This is a first person puzzle game.

I haven't installed it yet, but I did register it. I noticed it says "Opt in" after the game title where it shows the games I've gotten from Steam. Anyone know what that means, on there?
Posted 14 years ago # -
Opt in means voluntarily accepting an offer, as opposed to it being automatically applied without user consent. nVidia and ATI hardware promos are an example of opt in offers. Oddly, installing Portal on a Mac also initiates an opt in. One would think that the Mac version is already included with a regular purchase of Portal.
It sucks that Source SDK is not included. Darn you, Valve!
