I understand that the digital release of Civilization V is going to be exclusive to Steam as it incorporates many Steam features. In honor of this, Steam is currently holding a Civilization sale. You can get Civilization III Complete (all Civ3 products) for a measly $1.25. I have most or all of these, but will be getting this for the convenience. You can also get all of the Civilization IV products of sale. These are available individually of as a total package. These are all discounted 75% and range from $2.50 to $7.50. You can also get all of them (Civ4, Beyond the Stars, Warlords, and Colonization) for just $10. These are great games at great prices.

I'm thinking of doing the same Campy. I seem to be replacing all my DVD Versions for Steam ones especially when they sell them at this price and for the same reason you quote - convinience. also i like the fact that Steam will update your games automatically. (Though fileplanets comrade does the same thing, so, if you purcccchse direct 2 Drive games you get the same effect. Checkout the latest Direct 2 Drive games as well. Ithink this is the last or last but one week of their spring sale. Well worth checking out. :)

I did get both even though I already had purchased all but one expansion for each of them. D2D's final sale is a good one. I see they also have Civ4 Complete and it is even a nickel cheaper (US). I also the game I am currently playing, AI War including Remnant expansion is 67% off ($9.95). That is a great buy. Unfortunately, I already own everything they are selling that looks of interest to me. Oh well, I have more than I can play anyway.

Same here Campy. I really should try and desist from buying new games as they don't take that long to become truly amazing bargains; unfortunately I'm too easily persuaded to part with my cash. Though recently a very good friend has been helping me in that department and gifted me some brilliant games that I wouldn't othrwise have been able to afford.
I did buy Civ IV and have already played it. Considering it's been over a year since I touched the DVD version I think it was money well spent (yeah I also bought the Civ III version, lol. For £0.75 - well, it was basically a giveaway).
AI War is well worth buying if you haven't got it. I found it hard to get into, but once ypou're used to the controls is a marvellous game. I ended up buying Darkfall Lost Soul wnich I nearely bought at full price, but didn't think it was worth it and I'm considering buying Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines if my bank balance can take it. I used to have Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption (still have the manuel and box, but lost the CD), which at the time (10 years ago) was amazing quality. I had a ATI Rage 128 3D card at the time.
