Getting more and more often "Bad Gateway" when downloading or posting a comment.
What is?? What gateway??
Anything I can do? Or is that up to GOTD?

Hi, Casey as others are reporting the same and when you don't have similar problems with other sites, it's more likely that there is (again) a glitch somewhere between GOTD and your puter. So you can't do much. Though it's never wrong to clean the caches and the cookies.
If you have severe problems to download the GOTD programme, just go to one of the language sites and download from there. The programme is the same on all GOTD sites.
Good luck!

You can't post comments on the main site with the other language ones though. That's what bites me the most. I wrote one and a half long reviews yesterday and neither of them even got on to the moderation queue, telling me either I've already said that or the 502 message. I'm hoping (like many others here) that the GOTD team would attempt to solve this soon.

Are they using "Gateway" computers?
If so, that would explain much! LOL
No offense meant for cows (Gateway's trademark look), obviously!

Hi GMMan, try firefox - I use Firefox (FF) all the time, and it works like a charm - my comments always go through with FF, as opposed to IE or other browsers (at least, for me, this is a quick, temporary, effective fix for the 502 bad gateway messages, so it may work for you also.) It won't hurt to give it a try.
As for Gateway PCs, I always had my fair share of problems with these computers back in the day when they first came out - and their customer service left a lot to be desired.
I think their cows are rather cute... LOL!

LOL Good one Paul F. Quantum AKA "The Dragon"!!!!!!!!

@HappyPerson: I have been a Firefox user since 2006. All my interactions with GOTD are through Firefox and that's where the problems are happening.

change browser = placebo
Reminds me of this scene from Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy:
"Are you serious, sir?" the barman said in a small whisper which had the effect of silencing the pub. "You think the world's going to end?""Yes," said Ford.
"But, this afternoon?"
Ford had recovered himself. He was at his flippest.
"Yes," he said gaily, "in less than two minutes I would estimate."
"Isn't there anything we can do about it then?" he said.
"No, nothing," said Ford, stuffing the peanuts into his pockets.
"I thought," he said, "that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something."
"If you like, yes," said Ford.
"Will that help?" asked the barman.
"No," said Ford and gave him a friendly smile

during the last round of "Bad Gateway" on the comments page i waited instead of repeating, & the post went thru...
on the blog page nothing showed, i waited, & the post went thru...
a couple days ago all of the old Stickrs reappeared on the front page...and "Bad Gateway" complaints started again...now when i click the Stickr to report spam (or rate...lol), it says i have to sign in...
anonymous spam, but sign in to report?...
no problems downloading w/IE, Opera, or Flock...no problems activating...
it'll eventually get straightened out, but i hope it's before the Online Armor giveaway...which will probably be a busier day...

It seems to be straightened out already. I have no problems to see and rate those highly beneficial comments and reviews...

I just tried downloading today's giveaway and I got a 502.

For what it's worth...
This seems to be a Firefox issue, so use IE to download.
Regards, Damian

Hi Damian
It sure looks that way but it probably isn't,reading other users' comments that is...However, another strange thing reoccurred too:
I can only read the reviews in the ratings(and the recommendations) when using IE.
And things did work just fine a couple of days ago.
But I'm not complaining.LOL.Posted 15 years ago # -
Hmmm, I checked it again and have no problems at all with Firefox 3.6.
The download (without an accelerator) loaded down from both links, I could read everything and I even rated comments (it seems I have too much time, that I start rating user comments - LOL)
My test comment "(This is just a gateway test, sorry.)" is awaiting moderation.graylox

I moderated your test comment. :)
Look, I'm seeing lots of comments saying that people are getting the gateway error and that they cannot comment.
You might be seeing the 502 error - but trust me, the comment is going through - refresh the list of comments and you will probably see your comment followed by the text "Your comment is awaiting moderation".
Record so far is a user posting the same comment about 15 times - which is a great way to train the anti-spam engine to recognize future comments as spam. In that case, moderators will probably not notice future comments as they will be instantly recognized as comments from a spammer, and trashed.
Even if you see a 502 gateway error - it is very likely you comment still went through and is now sitting in the moderation queue. No need to post a second and third time telling the GOTD team about the error. BTW I'm getting the errors also, while trying to publish the comments.

You censored my comment? :(

lol @ graylox: "highly beneficial comments and reviews"
if my biggest problems with GOTD are checking back to see if a post went thru & being unable to rate or report a Stickr, i'm fine with that...
having been around a while, i watch to see when/if there are changes...if there are problems, & i can see there is something being done about it, i don't feel a need to complain (or demand an explanation)...
and with one exception, the GOTD team (where ever or whoever they are) has responded to me...either by fixing the problem or an explanation...
it does bother me when the best i can say to anyone having a problem is that i'm sure it'll get fixed, especially to new members of the community, who probably tried to search the forum & found "Bad Gateway" many times---but it is not clear that it was the "old" forum, or changes were made, etc....so it may seem to some that it is just one big never-ending problem...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945757
When you access an application on a Web site that uses the .NET Framework, and the Web site's home directory is the root directory of the host computer, the server returns a page that contains an HTTP 404 error message. Additionally, you receive the following error message: Server Error in '/Test' Application
The resource cannot be found "Bad Gateway" 404 (So get update and fit it)
no Bad Gateway on my PC with Opera & Firefox all is good.Posted 15 years ago #
