For those who didn't get it previously, Amazon is offering
Big Kahuna Reef free again. You have to register for an Amazon software downloading account, and I believe registering for any Amazon account includes giving them your credit card number, but you will not be charged. I've made various purchases from Amazon, and also downloaded several free games in a previous offer, and never had any trouble with them.

Thanks, Maud. I don't know if I'm going to get it, but I have played the demo online and find it an enjoyable and challenging match 3.

It's been free for some time and shows no indication of being discontinued. I don't know if you have to give a credit card number if there is no charge. When I downloaded music recently, It never got to the final order stage. I don't think this download (or the others that were free at that time) did either. You don't have to have a credit card to work with Amazon. You can send them checks which will be placed in your "account" and then you can order from your account - or even use a gift certificate.
Remember that you can get hundreds of further puzzles to Big Kahuna Reef after you install it. Just don't have ALL of them available at one time (you'll slow down EVERYTHING). Just keep a few loaded at a time and the others zipped ready for use.
When you get the additional puzzles, watch out. Some only work with Big Kahuna Reef 2 and not this original version.

Yes, thanks, Maud... a great game. Boy, I recall when that first came out. It seemed everyone was making levels for it that was good at that kind of thing. Quite a collection of levels, for sure. And thanks for the cautionary, Dragonlair, about the different versions.

thanks Maud!
My husband still uses our old computer with its windows 98 so he will be pleased!
(this computer is the one of which our computer guru surprisedly said, "This is quite a good machine!"...lol)
:)a bit of time passes...
Oh no it says that this offer is only for folks in the US, with a valid US postal address.
(grr..)
oh well!(kind of dumb to make such exclusions when the whole world is online!)Posted 15 years ago # -
Sorry you couldn't get it, Merri. What on earth does having a US postal address have to do with downloading software? Especially since this offer is meant to promote that service, to attract more customers for their software downloads. As you say, the whole world is online; perhaps someone should tell Amazon!

Yes isn't it funny!?
Oh well that is their loss because they aren't going to attract people from outside the US that way...
(I would tell them but they wouldn't care, I am sure...lol!)
thanks though!

This is just a guess but it may be copyright and/or contract issues that prompted this rather unusual limitation. It may be that some their downloads (thinking more MP3 and DVD rather than software) may only be sold in the US. That may be why they set up a general policy with that restriction. Even things that shouldn't matter, such as this game, are caught under the general policy because it's easier to have ONE policy rather than special policies for each download or each type of download.

Stumbled across this again for anyone else who (like me) missed these earlier posts. It is STILL free & I just got it. lol

For some reason, the original Big Kahuna Reef game is "perpetually free". Once you install the game you can also get hundreds of additional levels. However, don't have ALL your extra levels loaded at once - do them in groups. You'll bog down the game bad by it trying to LOAD it all at once. That's poor programming! You also need to watch out and ONLY get the levels for the original game. It won't accept the level 2 games.
The 2nd version is not free.

If you go to the Amazon.com main site, on the left click for digital downloads and then select "Game Downloads" from that menu. The next page is the main page for the game downloads. On the right is the "Free Game", just below the Free Trials. The url for the actual page is: http://www.amazon.com/Big-Kahuna-Reef-Game-Download-PC/dp/B001K7HV3Q/ref=amb_link_83813691_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=right-2&pf_rd_r=06ZJJ3W3TA2AG8RMB34K&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=472950831&pf_rd_i=979455011
I've got it so I barely notice it now.

Thanks, Dragon, but I didn't mean Amazon. I thought you know another game site. I'm quite sure I got it once from Reflexive, but I may be wrong. I never downloaded from Amazon. Nevermind, I just thought I could help those users Amazon excludes.
