I often get the free daily game giveaway from gamehouse which features ads. Well a few weeks ago the ad that was frequently popping up was about a cute little free online virtual game which would appeal to kids...I didn't really pay much attention to it until last night my 14yr old daughter was looking for something like that to play online & I just can't remember for the life of me what the website that the ad was advertising..I've looked everywhere on my pc because it was actually an ad I clicked on to see what it was but it is no longer anywhere in my history. Was wondering if anyone here might remember this ad & no the website?? Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions! :)
Does anyone here get the free daily game giveaway from Gamehouse

Tried em, but dislike ads to much to use em.

I don't like the ads, simply. Unless I can get rid of them all with various methods of proxy and blocking, and complete destruction and unlinking of ad modules, not likely will I play them. It's one of the reasons I use GGAOTD. Completely un DRM'd and no ads.

Hi, I get those games and remember those ads..(they featured a pet that you could train?)
I THINK it was called,
"Free Realms"

OMG!! I think that's it! Thank you, Thank you so much! :)

You are so welcome!
Have fun!

Yea for Merri! I never noticed that one. Maybe because I really don't notice the ads at all! Ten seconds here and there doesn't bother me a bit to be able to play a game for free. And lately in the evenings it's been once every 15-min. to half an hour. Not bad at all. :)

LOL, thanks midori!
I usually don't pay much attention to the ads either but remembered that one as the sound was so loud so I always had to mute it..lol.
I love the games I have from there..indeed, the ads are not bad at ALL for the chance to play the game for free...

GMMan thank you for mentioning DRM.
Like everybody else here, I love free games/software. Mostly the advertisings don't bother me too much, they had become part of our culture (like it or not). OTOH we all install anti-adware and anti-spyware tools, do everything and even more to make our systems secure: see the newest discussion to this topic
However, for a new game we happily download ad-ware and even spy-ware.
Spy-ware? Yes, for me DRM is a very evil spyware, like I explained it some time ago.
Even worse, Gamehouse (or other companies) can take over your system thanks to DRM. Please tell me, isn't this price too high for a free game?
Thanks to WR and his wonderful games-clan and some own searching, we all are getting more games than we have time to play.
Well, this is my point of view, you may draw other conclusions.stopDRMlox aka notblocklox aka graylox

Can't agree more, stopDRMlox. When I found out Gamehouse was owned by Real...that was enough for me. No free game is worth that for me. Anything with "Real" is not allowed on my PC.

For the most part the ads don't bother me. Every once in a while one comes along that I don't care for; those I mute. With most of them I click onto that red X in the upper right corner as soon as it appears.

I personally don't think of it as "taking over my system" at all... just watching a very short ad to support the free gameplay. And you're right, RosnSC... that red X appears just a few seconds (under 10) into the ad, so you click it right off and play away. And in the evening, it's just a pause they throw into the game with no ad. Not a nuisance at all to me to keep from buying a game, if they're offering it that way. Once you buy a game, that's where the DRM hits you... it really isn't "yours." I've run across maybe one site that distributes games without it, and of course the great games we get right here from the voluntary giveaway gang led by the now famous Whiterabbit!
(And I agree w/ you, delenn13... I've also become anti-Real over the years, but GameHouse doesn't seem to share Real's values (or non-values) or prices, so I consider them OK. Would I download a free game directly from Real? No.)Posted 15 years ago # -
Midori, I don't want to sound dense, here, but what are you all talking about with DRM and Real? As for Real, are you talking about RealArcade games? I've gotten a bunch of games from them, mostly from GamePass - that was a pain the butt, when it came to canceling my membership.

Sue, Google is your friend.
realarcade+drm - Google Search
You could also search using "realplayer+drm" and "Realnetworks+drm". They are all the same.
And just for giggles here is part of the EULA from Gamehouse found here:
5. DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ("DRMs").
The Software may include a DRM from RN or third party DRMs as plug-in components which are subject to their own license agreements. DRMs are designed to manage and enforce intellectual property rights in digital content purchased over the Internet. You may not take any action to circumvent or defeat the security or content usage rules provided or enforced by either the DRM or the Software. DRMs may be able to revoke your ability to use applicable content. RN is not responsible for the operation of a third party DRM in any way, including revocation of your content. RN is not responsible for any communications to or from any third party DRM provider, or for the collection or use of information by third party DRMs. You consent to the communications enabled and/or performed by the DRM, including automatic updating of the DRM without further notice. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RN for any claim relating to your use of a third party DRM.
You acknowledge and agree that in order to protect the integrity of certain third party content, RN or its suppliers and licensors may provide for the Software security-related updates that will be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer. Such security-related updates may impair the Software (and any other software on your computer which specifically depends on the Software) including disabling your ability to copy and/or play "secure" content, i.e. content protected by digital rights management. In such an event, RN and/or its suppliers and licensors shall use reasonable efforts to promptly post notices on the RN web site explaining the security update and providing instructions to end users for obtaining new versions or further updates of the Software that restore access to secure content and related features.
Automatic updating Without a notice? It would be different if I set it up that way..
So, sorry. No thanks!

I've tried both Gamehouse and Gametop, both of which I found out about from posts here. I don't mind Gamehouse ads at all (so far) .. it's Gametop that drove me nuts. Those ads popped up almost every time I completed a level, no matter how short. I finally uninstalled those games but am still enjoying Gamehouse. Just my two-cents worth! :-)
