Hi, all... GameHouse has been kind of repetitive lately with it's daily free ad-supported games, but today's is one I hadn't seen: Nancy Drew and The Haunting of Castle Malloy. So go for it Nancy Drew fans! %:-D

Hi Midori!!
Thanks so much for the heads up!!
I am installing it as I write this...lol!
(I inadvertently uninstalled the "white wolf of icicle creek" a while ago while doing a clean up so THIS is very welcome!)
:)Posted 16 years ago # -
Cool! Just a warning, though...it's 848.8 MB! So, not recommended for dial-up users!

Thanks for the tip, midori. I just discovered Nancy Drew a couple of days ago, so I'm D/Ling this one now. One question--if I lose it, can I reinstall it from my backup, or is it gone for good?
TIA.

I like getting the Nancy Drew games, though haven't played any, yet. Tomorrow is Chuzzle! I really like that game, and have been wanting to get it. :D
Ms LN, you can send a copy of your GameHouse files to a back up source. You can play it from that source. Before going kaput, I downloaded/installed software to my external hard drive, and accessed it from there, making sure it was first turned on. :D

How many ads do you have to see when playing?
ps- ya, dialup might take 4 days, lol.

Midori, the one repetitive genre of game I am seeing is the time management ones. I like them to a certain extent, but they are far from being a favorite. Take Jane's Hotel, i.e. - one person works the desk, hand delivers coffee to all the rooms, despite the fact that the coffee pot is right there in the lobby where guests could just help themselves. Ditto for the newspapers which are stacked by the desk. In a real hotel, you would not see one person doing everything, except for the housekeeping - Jane's Hotel does have a separate housekeeper. I was playing that game for a while, but kind of gave up on it when I had trouble beating subsequent levels because I wasn't fast enough. Sheesh, I worked poor Jane to a frazzle, and that was just after adding plants...lol

The trick is not to buy the plants!!!
To bad my computers don't like GameHouse games, the only way they play is if I download from a .exe file.....

Howdy.. well I downloaded it, after registering at GameHouse, and keep getting pop up box saying network error has occurred and make sure I'm connected to internet, etc. I am connected .. I'm here! So can't get it to run. Also checked and my firewall isn't blocking it either. Hummm!
Already have Nancy Drew: Lights, Camera, action.. that plays fine.
As for time management games, I don't/won't even bother with those anymore! Can't stand them!Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi, RosnC... I enjoyed the Jane series, but really the TMs are getting ridiculous lately. Things get so fast so quick, till it's just not fun, I agree. But still have some favorites.
Buzz... the ads aren't bad at all. You'll get one at start-up, and they seem to be few and far between, and a red X appears after approx. 10 seconds, so you don't even have to watch the whole 30 sec. or so. They're really not bothersome, imo, and the free game is worth it.
Hope you could get it to download, copmom... not sure what the problem is. I'm in the U.S., and it'll be available until approx. 3AM EST, so about six more hours to go.
Okay, Suki... what did you ever do to GameHouse. Lol. So weird when our computers are choosy. I used to see you post a bit over at RealArcade... that place is so dead now. Did themselves in with that upgrade, imo.
Cheers! $:-)Posted 16 years ago # -
That's okay midori, RA didn't like me for awhile either, lmao!
I think they switched installers and gave GameHouse their old one...maybe they don't like Dell's, should try it on my husbands HP...
Yes, I haven't been on the forums in a long time, they kept editing my posts, rofl...they didn't like it when I posted the price increase and I kept on doing it!
It's their bed and they will die in it!

I did finally get that program to install. Just left it on my desktop and then decided to try again last evening.. took forever, but it's here now. Guess their servers were super busy when I was trying originally.

Hi midori, I d/l it yesterday, and them popup ads were bad. I tried clicking the
red close x, but the ad just reloaded from the start till it was all played, on
my sys anyway. Deleted it cause I despise slimy 'ads' in any shape or form.Posted 16 years ago # -
Yeah, the popup ads were unusually unpredictable. Sometimes they were 30 seconds apart, and sometimes 10-15 minutes. I think they're keyed to play before certain actions/videos, so when you try to do those consecutively, you get lots of ads. But there were also long stretches with no ads. Weird. They're annoying, but tolerable for me.

RosnSC, thanks for the tip. I'll use it next time, since I just now read your tip. After I installed the Nancy Drew game, I copied the entire folder to my ext. hard drive, but got a msg. asking if I wanted to copy w/o some settings (don't remember the msg.). So I'm guessing I won't be able to play ND if my internal drive dies. Most of the games I've gotten from GGAOTD copy OK.
I'll try your suggestion next time Gamehouse gives a game I want. I'm enjoying Castle Malloy, but keep getting stuck. Wish I could figure it out more quickly--but eventually I do, I guess. Right now I can't figure out how to finish copying the wedding invites.

hi Ms LN!
I too am having a hard time with this latest Nancy Drew; even though I am playing as a "junior detective".
Here is a good walkthrough site..

I know some folks don't like to use such aids, but it sure has helped me...lol.

Thank you, thank you, Merri. You're a lifesaver. I was just about to go back to the game and try it again when I saw your post. This AM I googled for tips but gave up after seeing a bunch of listings to buy the game and one to buy a guide.
I see I've already missed a number of things in the library I should have done, and I couldn't find the nursery at all. Maybe once I get started again, with this cheat sheet, I'll finally get the hang of it.

Here's another great "hint" site: http://www.uhs-hints.com/
It's Universal Hint System, and I like it because it only gives you the hints you need, and they uncover one at a time. So sometimes you only need a hint that you're going in the right direction, so just take a peek at line one. Need more? Look at the next level, and they're divided into sections of the game. So nothing "shows" until you open it, one step at a time. I'll have to check yours out, Merri... maybe it's set up similarly. I absolutely hate to "cheat," but sometimes you need that reassurance. Or sometimes you're just plum stuck in a rut spinning your wheels!Posted 16 years ago # -
Ms LN..you are welcome!!
The nursery WAS hard to find for a while, I was finding myself going into the library or downstairs..lol!
Midori,,,YES UHS is another GREAT hint site; probably better, for the reasons you mention!
I used that one a lot while playing Syberia 2..
(I hate to "cheat" too, but this Castle Malloy game is QUITE hard!
My wheels are CONSTANTLY spinning..lolol!
Arg..lol!
:PPosted 16 years ago # -
Just finished the game. Didn't have to cheat TOO much! ;-) Make sure you watch all the credits...there's a little bonus if you wait.
