I can't seem to be able to activate or install on my computer. I have Windows XP Home Edition. I get a error message:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
The software key wrapper says starting and interrupts with the above message. What does this mean GAOTD? I guess I will miss today's game giveaway. Please, help!!!

Same here Badsouth. I tried this morning after I d/l it and waited, and waited for it to install, then we had to leave. Now I just tried again, and got the same as you. Plus I'm all confused by the time differences as we are traveling.
What up GOTD?Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi! GAOTD? I have tried over 12 times to install this game. All 12 times I couldn't get the game I LOVE PUPPIES to activate and install on my computer. So how about giving us a good copy that will open, activate and install. Thanks!!

have you got at least a gig+ (could be a couple) free in the right places? have you cleaned your temp dir?
(ironic the example I use, eh? - btw, it can take a while to shuttle that data around, too, especially using the same drive for all.)
and I didn't add the original zip file- you did unzip and then hard-deleted the zip, right? no? add 311 megs. [substitute 311 for 253 in the example all the way through, this is puppies after all- bigger game] and if you're using the xp/vista m$ 'see archive as folder' facility to run it from the zip file god only knows what the overhead is from that- use a standalone extractor, it's at least predictable!
from my post on why you might want to move your temp directory:
...An example, using the default location for temp:
If you try to install, say, I love kittens! (253 MB) which you downloaded to someplace on the c: drive and start the install, the ggaotd wrapper unpacks it to the temp dir (now there's 506 MB used on c:), starts the game's installer, and if you choose to install it to c:, then you'll need at least another 253 megs (probably lots more) to get it done, or something over 760 megs.
If you downloaded to d:, and your temp directory is on e:, and installed onto c:, then D: and E: only need 253 megs free, and C: only needs the space the installed game takes up.
Default is usually c:\documents and settings\[username]\temp, which is a pain to get to when you wanna clean it out, and sucks space on the c: drive.
(under WinNT, 2000, XP, that is... Under the Win9x-ME series it's c:\windows\temp - as an aside, while desktop, sendto, and 'my documents' under NT OS's are in the documents and settings tree- split up depending on permissions, usernames and whim- Win9x puts 'my documents' at c:\my documents and stuffs the rest under c:\windows. <sigh> Microsoft.)

Hi, badsouth, I'm sorry for you that you could not play this game. But I don't think that the GOTD team can help you, as the game is okay. Otherwise would lots of other users complain about a failure. There must be a problem at your side. I'm not a computer pro. I can only advise you to google your error message, or go to Microsoft and try to download the missing files. Run the test there, to see if your Windows XP needs an update. I downloaded and installed the game without any hassle - and now I'm going to delete it again, because I don't like it. I wonder if American ears can understand and bear this terrible voice of that child (?) explaining the game. I can not.

meant to say hello elsewhere, elusivelox, just lost track- now I gotta run and see if you got me on what is it or the don't read thread.
hope you're doing better! (still saturday here. :)

no, have not been elsewhere, thanks for that "doing better", for some moments the sun is shining, but the next cloud is just around the corner. Let's say, it's a work in progress :)

The problem is that the game DOESN'T HAVE an installer, nor does it need activation. You can use a program like "Smart Install Maker" to make an installer out of it, if you like... The game runs just fine in whatever folder you unzip it to, though. Just you have to make your own shortcuts.
