Okay, I missed the option screen when installing Starburn--and I find to my annoyance my home page has been changed, seemingly permanently, to Rocket Division's website. I've tried going through the control panel internet options to restore my home page, but it doesn't work.
Any advice would be welcome--I don't want to be stuck with the dam' rocketdivision page.

Oh blast-- spoke too soon.My homepage re-sets to rocket division when I open a new firefox page. What a nuisance.
I really don't expect any program to hijack my homepage like this.Posted 17 years ago # -
I’ve been in the business for 20 odd years. Earlier today I had a call from a newbie who’d installed this Rocket Division software on his PC. He saw no reason why he shouldn’t trust the Wizard - which offered to put Rocket Division as his new home page (I’d recently taught him how he could easily and safely swap and change this in Firefox). However, Tools>Options>Main> offers no solution to the problem Rocket Division and GAOTD has set at our feet. I’ve got him to remove and re-install Firefox, clear the cache, cookies, temporary internet files and run two different spyware programs + Hijack. No spyware was found and - after several hours of working on it - the problem persists. Tomorrow I will try talking him through adjustments in Safe Mode [comment # 125] (fingers crossed). But where is the guidance from Rocket Division and GAOTD at this critical time?

Slava (GOTD) has already posted that he has contacted Rocket Division.

Missed this problem - have not installed the prog.
Here is a layperson's thinking :
Recent I had to uninstall Firefox and was amazed, that after installing the latest version, all my preferences were back. I did not know, that the FF files in Documents and Settings were not deleted during uninstall.
So kevinn's (comment # 125) solution seems evident to me.Posted 17 years ago # -
1. Close any open FireFox windows
2. Using Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Documents and Settings\ (user name) \Application Data\Mozilla
\Firefox\Profiles\(random letters) .default3. Open the User.js file in notepad.
4. Delete the line that reads:
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "www.rocketdivision.com");
5. Save and close the document, then restart FireFox
6. Surf to the page you want as your homepage.
7. Click on Tools then select Options from the drop down menu
8. In the General Screen, there will be a section titled “Home Page”. From here, click the “Use Current Page” button to set your homepage.

Seems to be a common "tactic". thx to HerePosted 17 years ago # -
Hi,
I know this is a little late for this problem, but it might help someone in the future that uses FireFox, It is an FireFox extension called Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE):
Quote "With FEBE, you can easily back up or move any of your Firefox settings. That includes your bookmarks, links to the Web sites you visit most often, your stored passwords, your form data and so on. There's nothing FEBE can't back up or move for you!"
I lost all my bookmarks a couple of weeks ago, 200 or more of them, I sure could of used this extension then, but I just found out about it this morning.
It can be found here: https://addons.mozilla.org:443/en-US/firefox/addon/2109
Good day

Barry, if you had a problem with Firefox Bookmarks - try this out.
I've been using it since day 1, It really shines when you have more than one pc (or one PC booting between Windows and Linux) and you want to share/sync bookmarks across pcs or platforms.
FEBE and CLEO are also very useful (sheduled backups etc)

Hi, BubbyCo,
Not surprised to see this complaint thread pop up. Glad I didn't get tripped up by this sort of sleazy stunt. Yes, SLEAZY, because they're emulating something Google's doing -squirrel their toolbar onto PCs via many "helpful" software providers' installs (I suspect Google/Dataclick uses SEO ranking bribes to get providers to comply, but that's just a rumor I'm starting because I loathe dataminers). There is NO legit reason for that option to be pre-enabled. Ethically-speaking, it should be an Opt IN selection.Perhaps GAOTD could do their faithful followers a good deed by making sure every software giver owns up to any such stunts, so a caveat can be added to the README file. May I suggest -
"CAUTION: during installation, this software will perform an unauthorized change of your HomePage pointer. You have to physically Opt OUT rather than Opt IN. They, of course, know that a lot of people will overlook a little checkbox."

Hi,
Thanks for the link BuBBy, the program looks mighty interesting.
What I have been doing lately to back up the FireFox bookmarks is, go to bookmarks on the toolbar, than organize bookmarks, file, than export, I than can save what is called a FireFox document file, to a folder of my choice, then encase of a problem use, file, import, go to that FireFox file and it should restore the bookmarks to when I last saved them. What I like about that is you can easily put that file on a disk or any removable storage device.
Catch you latter,

You guys should try jv16 Power Tools. If you use jv16 Power Tools to uninstall, it goes into the registry and pulls out ALL registry keys pertaining to the program you are uninstalling - which should do the trick. Regular uninstall usually leaves the registry alone.
They also have a free trial download, if you decide to buy it's $29 - and worth EVERY penny! I get nothing from this, and I do own the program and it's amazing for all that it does.
P.S. I was fortunate to UNcheck the sneaky 'change my homepage' checkbox. And yes, I also agree that one should have the option to opt IN, not be opted in by default. I also watch out for "default" google and yahoo tool bars. Many programs will install those tool bars if you aren't carefull.

RocketDivision have released a patch - a new version of the program (I assume with the default to NOT change the homepage), as well as a program to fix the problem if you are affected.
They also apologize (a thousand times) for the bug.
