After StarBurnShark9.5 installs (line darkened up to the end) Setup window recommends to restart computer, the Setup window freezes showing 'Wait while Setup installs StarBurn on your computer'. Computer cannot restart. Have to press alt+crtl+del to bring up windows task manager and stop the Setup program. When I click the StarBurn icon on desktop application says at top 'you have 30 evaluation days left', the application fails to start. Also a 'Program Error' message window says 'StarBurn.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.' My operating system is Windows 2000 professional.

Exactly the same problem here.
W2K SP4. Freezes at the end exactly as you describe.
If you kill the process it then pops up with it is registered Would you like to make Starburn your home page etc.
If you then run it it does fire up OK but says it is day 30 of my Trial. So doesnt look like it has registered. So how do I register it?

Licensed to GAOTD user but then goes to a box saying.....
Starburn has encountered a problem etc etc, Please tell Microsoft about the problem.
Thanks for any help I can get!Posted 17 years ago # -
Color me frustrated. Win2k SP4 .Net 1.1 2.x Java 6 DirectX 9c, yadda yadda up to date all over, tried 3 times, exactly the same after killing avg avir madotate mouse and nvidia tray icons turn off and disconnect usb stuff..
couldn't describe it better if I polished for a week, so I'll paste- mostly:
(During) StarBurnShark 9.5 install (line darkened up to the end) Setup window recommends I restart computer, (then) the Setup window freezes showing 'Wait while Setup installs StarBurn on your computer'. An error log is being created.'
baad mojo, and here I was hoping to find a program that'd burn reliably under win2k.
AAArrgh. and "computer cannot restart" is dead accurate, too.
Uninstall is bloody sloppy, too. left files and registry entries behind.

I just downloaded Starburn and when I clicked on the install file I got a message saying the time had expired for this giveaway. According to the GAOTD site there are still over 7 hours left for this giveaway. What gives?

either it can't find the server or they're uploading a fixed (I can dream, right?) copy.

Have there been any success stories with W2K ?
Posted 17 years ago # -
unless (win xp 2000) counts, and sounds like #82 & 114 had same problem, didn't mention OS. no indications of win2k ok on installs I saw.

where do I find sp5 for win2k? mine's english version in case that helps.
Posted 17 years ago # -
Not called sp5 - but same thing "sp4 v2" (a trick with math and mirrors)

Just to add to the statistics... I attempted to install SB9.5 on three identical (hardware-wise) WinXP machines. It wouldn't install properly on the first machine for love or money (see Stardustn's comment). It installed fine on the other two machines. Of course, the first machine is the one I wanted it on(8^{)

Any existing burner (eg Alcohol/Nero) or emulators (Daemon Tools) already installed - or previous versions of StarBurn - just thinking along the lines of conflicts.

none here, haven't reinstalled daemon since last OS reinstall, and nero 6.6.1.15 is installed *only* in the dual-boot win98se, it has issues with 2k. Thus the wish to try sb95.
now, here's one to toss at Rocket Division Software- are any of the win2k *services* listed at http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm as 'safe' to disable (with the exception of Computer Browser and Protected Storage- I found out the hard way those are needed for GizmoProject VOIP- been trying for most of a year to get those into the Gizmo knowledgebase) required for starburn?
I *have* trimmed most of the ones not needed in a home LAN out of startup, most to disabled with a few (windows installer, and yes I have 3+) set to manual start...
that possible? anyone else shut off 'wasted' services?
IIRC WinXP has a fair number in common, as well...
