I gather from searching this forum that it is not possible to install an activated GOTD onto a new computer or hard drive. I'm sure many of us would appreciate it if this were clearly flagged in the T&Cs, where there is no mention of it whatsoever.
I have read some of the defences of the restriction and take them on board, but strongly feel that it is inexcusable not to make it clear up front.

Is GOTD a trial?
Every program we give away is not a trial. We provide you with full-functioning registered version of software titles.
There are two points you need to remember:
* you have to install AND activate/register the product according to instructions given in the readme.txt file attached to every GOTD package.
* it should be done while the giveaway offer for the software is still on (within 24 hours).
Still we do not provide you with the lifetime license in terms of the fact that our package can be used to install the program on giveaway date only. It means that you will not be able to re-install the program after PC crash or install the program on another PC after the giveaway day is over.
being selective in reading does not mean the terms weren't clear.

I don't know how it could be any more clear. You've got 24 hours to download, install, and activate the program. Anything that causes you to reinstall would necessitate a reactivation, which is not possible after the 24-hour period. Maybe you missed the GOTD downloads that eliminate the need to reinstall your system? If you're that concerned about re-installation then there are two options: (1) buy the program or (2) download and use one of the freeware alternatives that are almost always listed.

It is clear. You know there's a time limit, the terms are on the download page, and the readme, and there's a FAQ. Do a bit of digging and you'll be good.

seriously- this is a win/win place, why rock the boat.
We get a fully functioning trial period of 1 whole year, not 30 days with everything reduced or with watermarks.
Better than a test drive of a new car, we get to keep it.
This is a business, not a hobby I'm guessing.
Software is a personal thing to some people & once they try some will use forever, tell all their friends & even...shudder...BUY a copy or extra licences.
anyhow, that's my 2 cents worth :)

Of course, if you are going to miss not having the program on your new PC "that much" - perhaps that might indicate that it is probably worth buying?
If not... what is the problem?
Remember that if GOTD just handed out commercial software to be installed at any point in the future - and installed on as many PCs where ever you want... where does that leave the developer who is trying to earn a living by actually writing (and selling) the software?
At the end of the day - it is a marketing project, and the participation of developers with GOTD really depends on at least some users liking the software enough to buy it (or providing feedback to make the product better).
Always looking for a freebie loophole in the system really won't encourage developers if they believe there is no payback for them.

I just had my computer give up the ghost and along with it all of my wonderful free GOTD games...boo! Sort of the same situation as you were mentioning as I'll now be either losing everything back to factory settings or have to get a new computer...booooooo!! LOL! So really I have a few options: 1. Look for my fav games online to see if they are freeware and get them free 2. Look for my favourite games online and buy them 3. Make many many pots of coffee and wait for them to come around free on GOTD 4. Scour the forum for the many lists of freebie games and find a few new ones. Sure it's all a bit of work, it's not my fault that my computer went bonkers but still, it's only a free game for 24 hours here and with that knowledge comes the responsibility that I'll have to pay for it possibly if I want to see it again. Meh. I'll still take it, it's a good deal and GOTD is a darn good site. Happy Monday to you all.
